The Las Vegas Police Department is hoping to deter street takeovers by destroying vehicles being used in the illegal gatherings.
Last week, Las Vegas Metro PD made an example out of two cars that were used in takeovers, crushing them into scrap metal following investigations by the department’s RAID (Racing Apprehension and Intervention Detail) and VIPER Auto Theft Task Force squads.
Footage showed the two vehicles being grabbed by a giant claw attached to a crane before being loaded onto a conveyor belt and fed into a massive metal shredder.
Once fed through the car crusher, piles of scrap metal emerge completely unrecognizable from their previous forms.
The driver of the 2009 Infiniti G37S coupe that was crushed used it during a street takeover, nearly hitting spectators, a semi truck and a bus while performing dangerous stunts before evading arrest.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 2007 Nissan 350Z, also took part in several takeovers and evaded authorities at excessive speeds, at one point making changes to the vehicle’s appearance in efforts to fool police, à la Grand Theft Auto.
“Illegal street racing, street takeovers, drifting, all of these things that are associated with that culture that ultimately ends up in lives lost, property damaged, and just wreaking pure havoc in our community is not acceptable,” said Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill.

Sensible idea
First they start with the “criminals” and crush their paid for and owned cars.
Next, they will crush your car over a minor infraction, and easily get away with it.
AWESOME!!! I also want LENGTHY prison sentences for ALL involved!!
Yeah, get these worst of the worst criminals off the streets!
Better yet, start with the lawmakers that are screwing us
