Talks between Washington and Tehran have temporarily paused for the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his family members who were killed in the initial U.S./Israeli strikes February 28. The next round of negotiations are scheduled to continue “at the earliest possible time” following the ceremony, Pakistani and Qatari mediators said.

Tensions between the two sides increased following the Islamic Republic’s attack on a Singapore-flagged commercial vessel June 25. Days later it was decided to continue the negations. Despite the effort toward peace, harsh statements remain.

“There may come a point when we are no longer able to be reasonable, and will be forced to militarily complete the job that we very successfully started. If that happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer exist,” President Donald Trump said Saturday.

“Any threat against our people and leadership will receive immediate powerful response,” Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Wednesday.

Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner met with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani in Doha, Qatar Wednesday.

Qatari sources report “positive progress” from this week’s meetings, which appeared to focus more on getting energy flowing through the Strait of Hormuz, and not the Iranian nuclear program.

“In Doha this week, both sides supposedly discussed the future administration of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran in dialogue with Oman,” Eric Lob, a nonresident scholar in the Carnegie Middle East Program, told CBS News. “They also apparently addressed unfreezing billions of dollars in Iranian assets in Qatar and elsewhere.”

Despite the President’s statement on Wednesday that “the denuclearization of Iran is moving along well,” Lob said. “It does not appear that the issue was tackled in an in-depth manner, if at all.”

Geopolitical expert Matt Bracken discussed the collapse of Western society which would result from an energy shutdown during his Wednesday appearance on Alex Jones Live. Notably, fuel prices skyrocketed in Europe Wednesday when government subsidies ran out.

Months after the Iran war kicked off, funerals are being held for the late heads of state and their family members:
