Dina Nina Martinez-Rutherford, a transgender individual running for the Wisconsin state assembly, released a campaign video this week that looked like something straight out of Saturday Night Live.

Wearing a “trans rights” Starbucks t-shirt, “Dina Nina” said he’s running “to be Republicans’ worst nightmare.”

The Democrat candidate labeled himself “a transgender woman who lives in poverty, wants to legalize weed and thinks everybody deserves affordable housing and healthcare,” adding, “Yikes! I’m the exact opposite of what you typically get in that building.”

Dina Nina, who is currently a Madison Common Council alder (District 15), is running in the August 11, 2026 Democratic primary for the open state assembly seat, hoping to win and face off against the Republican candidate in the November midterm election.

The open seat was left open by Francesca Hong (D) retiring to run for governor.

The trans politician also calls himself a “transminister,” delivering sermons at local churches that many would deem blasphemous.

For example, while speaking at a Lutheran church in 2024, Dina Nina cited the gnostic scripture “The Sophia of Jesus Christ,” which teaches that salvation comes from hidden wisdom rather than Jesus’ death on the cross that.
