Video: Robot Dog On Wheels Will Deliver Your Food, Carry Your Things – Or Hunt You Down

Video of a robotic quadruped performing astonishing athletic feats has many hoping it will be used for good, while others fear it will one day be turned against humans.

Footage shared Friday features Chinese robotic company Unitree’s As2-W wheel-leg robot speeding down rocky hillsides and easily traversing rough terrain and shallow waterways, while performing backflips on cliff edges.

The flexible robot can sprint at 13 mph, boasts a 35 lbs. carrying capacity while moving, or can drive nearly 20 miles with no payload.

The video claims the robot makes an “ideal hiking companion,” with one X user visualizing a delivery bot, quipping, “imagine this thing coming at you with a burrito bowl and a medium Dr Pepper.”

Many other X users, however, pondered the frightening prospect that the robot might one day be used to hunt humans, with many concluding people would be helpless to escape an army of the As2s.

“[H]ow do you even defend from an army of these chasing you?!” questioned X user vittorio.

“Everyone who thought the killbots would be human-shaped is going to be extremely disappointed in their predictive abilities for the approximately .03 seconds they have remaining before the metallic ball of living yarn rams into them at 460mph, boring a hole through their torso,” envisioned another commenter, with popular X user “Jarvis” writing, “Imagine how cool it would be to be killed by one of these things.”

“I like how they film this with up beat music and make it dance. This is a military promo for an elite level killing machine,” noted X user @GoingParabolic. “Be very afraid. Also I feel somewhat responsible for this as I hold the patent for robotic monoped operation. I probably shouldn’t have done that in retrospect.”

The Dank Knight remarked, “It’s nice how they preview what will inevitably chase us all down and kill us.”

“In 30 years, something like this will show up at our door to confiscate our guns without endangering any human police,” predicted @DrInsensitive.

The As2-W is certainly one of the most advanced robots built thus far, but it’s becoming increasingly obvious that technology is moving in the direction of creating robots designed to hunt and kill humans.
