Multiple boatloads of illegal aliens from around the world were apprehended after landing on Puerto Rican shores earlier this week.
Interceptions unfolded on opposite sides of the island on Monday, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has revealed.
The first group was interdicted at Culebrita Island, an uninhabited island off the east coast of Puerto Rico.
An American citizen and 10 illegals from India, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic had set off from nearby St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands during the failed smuggling attempt.
All 11 were taken into custody by U.S. Border Patrol (USBP).
On the same day, a makeshift vessel carrying dozens of illegals made landfall on the western coast of the U.S. territory.
A total of 27 foreign nationals were arrested following a thorough search conducted by federal and local authorities.
The ‘migrants’ were identified as citizens of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.
They were all transported to USBP Ramey Station for processing.
“Our agents, working closely with our law enforcement partners, remain vigilant in securing Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands’ coastal borders,” stated Ramey Sector’s Chief Patrol Agent Reggie Johnson.
“This successful interdiction highlights the dedication and teamwork required to disrupt dangerous smuggling ventures and protect our communities.”
