A terrifying scene unfolded in the skies above the Austrian Alps last week as a Cessna 172 collided with a paraglider mid-air.
The May 23 incident was caught on video by the paraglider, 44-year-old Sabrina, who said she couldn’t believe she survived.
Footage showed her calmly cruising through the sky near the Schmittenhöhe mountain when out of nowhere the small jet’s propeller rips her parachute’s canopy to shreds, sending her spiraling out of control as she struggled to deploy her reserve parachute.
The video ends with the paraglider making a rough landing.
Miraculously, both the Cessna pilot and the paraglider were able to land safely, with the latter sustaining only minor injuries.
A police helicopter later arrived and flew the paraglider to nearby Zell am See Airport.
“I actually still can’t believe that I’m sitting here typing this and apart from a few nasty bruises and contusions all around nothing really happened,” she wrote on Instagram, noting it was her birthday.
Aerotime reports the pilot of the Cessna sightseeing plane, a 28-year-old Austrian man, told police he had no way of avoiding the paraglider, as the incident is under investigation.

Is that you never have to go paragliding.
Cruising speed for a Cessna 172 is about 120mph, at that speed the pilot had more than enough time to see the object ahead of him that he was closing in on and course correct to avoid collision.
Clearly the pilot was not paying attention and should lose his license or have it suspended for a longtime
