Karmelo Anthony, the teenager accused of murdering Austin Metcalf at a Texas high-school track meet, was asked to leave an opposing team’s tent “15 times” before the fatal attack, a witness testified in court.

The witness, a 17-year-old student from Frisco Memorial High, said he and other schoolmates were in their tent when they saw Anthony enter the area wearing the uniform of Frisco Centennial High.

Memorial students started telling Anthony, “You probably shouldn’t be here, you need to leave our tent.”

A number of teammates, including Metcalf, asked Anthony to leave multiple times.

Anthony is said to have responded, “Touch me and find out.”

The confrontation is said to have lasted two minutes, during which Metcalf gave Anthony a “minor pushing” before Anthony fatally stabbed him.

The witness also said Anthony had his hand in his open backpack, on his lap, but the students believed he was bluffing that he had a weapon.

After stabbing Metcalf, Anthony dropped the weapon and ran.

Jurors were played a 911 call made by the witness in which he desperately told the operator, “My friend just got stabbed. My friend is bleeding everywhere.”

The witness denied he and other Memorial students “ganged up” on Anthony, and insisted the defendant had “created a problem.”

Another witness testified that Anthony “clearly knew what he had his mind set on” during the confrontation.

He said the knifing was not in self-defense, and that Anthony provoked the confrontation.

Anthony has pled not guilty and maintains the stabbing was self-defense.

Austin Metcalf, 17, was fatally stabbed on 2 April 2025, during a track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

Karmelo Anthony, his family and legal representatives have faced significant controversy since his arrest, including accusations that funds raised for his legal defense were misappropriated.

Anthony’s family and his defenders have also alleged racism against him. Their claims have been amplified in recent days during jury selection, because none of the jurors selected are black.

The case continues.
