U.S. Vice President JD Vance held a news conference in Switzerland on Monday, detailing the results of peace talks with Iranian officials after Israel intentionally sabotaged a deal signed by President Trump when they attacked Southern Lebanon Friday night and Saturday morning.

In a major update, the vice president said Iran has agreed to allow International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors into the country to ensure they’re not enriching uranium.

The VP said there was “a lot of good progress” made during the negotiations and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi agreed, saying, “Tireless Pakistani and Qatari mediation has delivered major progress to end Lebanon War.”

Potentially admitting to illegal activity, Vance said President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner was instrumental in outlining the strategy for distributing hundreds of billions of dollars in frozen Iranian assets, saying Kushner worked with the Qataris on the matter.

Popular 𝕏 account “Shadow of Ezra” accurately noted, “Jared Kushner is not a member of the United States government.”

One key portion of the talks focused on keeping the Strait of Hormuz open.

Vance pointed out that, despite threats of walking out of the negotiation by certain Iranian officials, they remained engaged throughout the duration of the talks.

Discussing Lebanon, VP Vance said the U.S. wants Hezbollah to stop firing at Israel and that if an attack does take place, all sides would engage in conversations to figure out exactly why and who gave the order.

For example, he said, “If a junior guy fires a drone that didn’t have approval from the high command, of course, Israel has to respond to that. But then sometimes, with the response, we could have a more peaceful situation if Israel responds in the context of the conversation that is ongoing between Hezbollah, Lebanon, Israel, and other partners in the region.”

“There really hasn’t been a mechanism to have those conversations until about 4pm yesterday when we set that up,” he added.

Answering a question about whether or not the Trump administration wants Israel “to withdraw forces from Southern Lebanon,” Vance said, “The Israelis have been very clear that they don’t have territorial intentions in southern Lebanon. The reason they feel like they have to be there is because they’re worried about Hezbollah fighters in South Lebanon firing into Israel.”

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to keep the IDF in Southern Lebanon for as long as necessary, saying, “Nothing will alter that commitment.”

As part of the framework of the deal, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced Monday that a temporary 60-day general license authorization for the production, delivery, and sale of Iranian oil has been issued.

“Under President Trump and Vice President Vance, we continue to make the world safer and more prosperous. In line with the ongoing productive talks in Switzerland, Iran has committed to free and open transit in the Strait of Hormuz and to permit International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors into their country. As part of the framework, Treasury has issued a temporary 60-day general license authorizing the production, delivery, and sale of Iranian oil,” he wrote.

All parties involved will continue the talks for the rest of the week, with negotiators hoping to reach a final deal within by the end of August.

  1. “with negotiators hoping to reach a final deal within by the end of August”

well golly, we’ll be looking forward to that…just to be clear, August of what year? Then we won’t have to listen to any more excuses or dozens of fake deal announcements
