Footage has surfaced showing Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), 84, being loaded onto an ambulance on a stretcher outside his home in June.
First responders came to his Washington home on June 14 following reports of an unconscious person who had reportedly suffered cardiac arrest.
McConnell’s face cannot be seen in the video, which shows a person with their feet covered in an orange blanket.
CNN reports via a neighbor that McConnell was not seen wearing an oxygen mask when he was put on the stretcher.
Via CNN:
The neighbor said they asked officers what was going on, and the officers responded that there had been a “medical emergency.” But when the neighbor inquired if McConnell was having a medical emergency, officers said they would block the street for anybody. The neighbor said they learned from another eyewitness who saw the individual’s face that the person on the stretcher was McConnell and he was not wearing an oxygen mask.
In a 911 call, McConnell’s name was never mentioned and his team has not commented on his condition other than to say he’s been receiving excellent care.
The video comes as McConnell has been MIA for several weeks, missing several votes on Capitol Hill, as speculation swirls he could actually be dead.
Skeptics suspect the Kentucky senator’s staff is holding off on confirming his demise until after August 3 in order to stave off a special election that would be triggered if his death is announced before then.
Speculation the senator could be dead began to surface earlier this week as pro-MAGA journalist Laura Loomer reported he was “brain dead.”
On Wednesday, President Trump told members of the press he was unaware of McConnell’s condition.
Several conservative figures, including CNN’s Scott Jennings, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) and Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), have claimed they’ve spoken with McConnell and that he’s very much alive.
Meanwhile, Democrat Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has called on McConnell’s office to provide proof of life “amid growing concerns around the Senator’s ability to serve.”
“Over the last several weeks, Kentuckians have grown increasingly concerned about the health and well-being of Sen. McConnell,” Beshear wrote Wednesday. “As Governor – and a fellow public official who understands the commitment we’ve made to the people we serve – I am requesting the Senator provide an update on his current health status.”
